Head of the Banda Aceh Basarnas Office Ibnu Harris Al Hussain said the crewwoman, identified as Arante Faenielle Emerald, 38, was evacuated from the Maltese-flagged cruise ship Mein Schiff 6.
“The victim was evacuated due to illness and required further medical treatment. She was transferred from the ship and taken to a hospital in Banda Aceh. The evacuation took place on Saturday night (May 16),” he said in Banda Aceh on Sunday.
Al Hussain explained that Basarnas deployed the rescue vessel KN Kresna 232 from Ulee Lheue Port in Banda Aceh to approach the cruise ship near Weh Island.
He said the operation began after the captain of Mein Schiff 6 contacted the Basarnas command center to request the evacuation of an ill crew member.
“After receiving the information, we coordinated with the cruise ship to determine the evacuation coordinates. Our team then headed to the pickup point, located around 5.8 nautical miles off Ulee Lheue Port,” Al Hussain stated.
He added that the evacuation team included health quarantine personnel, who ensured the patient was free from communicable diseases before she boarded the rescue vessel.
The patient was later transported ashore and transferred by ambulance to Zainoel Abidin Public Hospital for further treatment.
Al Hussain noted that the operation also involved support from customs, immigration, the navy, and port authorities.
“With the evacuation of the Philippine crewwoman completed, the SAR operation was officially concluded and all personnel returned to their respective institutions,” he said.
