Jakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said the Cibubur Youth Elite Sport Center will be transformed into a hub for sports science and athlete recovery as part of efforts to optimize national sports infrastructure.

“There has been a ministerial agreement that the sports facility in Cibubur will become a center for sports science and recovery because a hospital already exists there,” Thohir told lawmakers on Tuesday.

The plan forms part of broader efforts to restructure national sports facilities to ensure government-built infrastructure is utilized more efficiently.

Thohir said he had coordinated with Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno and Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono on facility management.

The coordination aims to prevent overlapping functions among state-owned sports facilities and strengthen support for athlete development.

Under the plan, the Cibubur complex will focus on sports science, rehabilitation and athlete recovery after training sessions and competitions.

Thohir said management of the National Sports Hospital in the complex will involve cooperation with sovereign wealth fund agency Danantara.

“This will become a specialized hospital for sports science and recovery similar to those in Qatar. The area covers 13 hectares,” he said.

The ministry and Danantara will implement an operational partnership scheme, including revenue-sharing arrangements, with most proceeds allocated for maintenance and further development of the complex.
