Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Youth and Sports will operate the Cibubur Youth Elite Sport Center (CYESC) facility in preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the United States (US).

In a statement released by the ministry on Wednesday, Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo echoed the government's seriousness about maintaining and increasing medal achievements at the event, including accelerating the completion process of the sports facility.

"God willing, the facility will start operating this October. It may not be perfect, but it already has a training center for weightlifting and rock climbing," the minister stated.

According to Ariotedjo, the training center will be of international standard, with construction work on the same lines as the Japanese training center, which combines physical training, sports science, and dormitories.

"This facility is the greatest gift from President Joko Widodo for sports development in the future, especially for Olympics sports," the minister stated.

In addition, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir, who is concurrently a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), remarked that the Indonesian team immediately planned preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after the 2024 Paris Olympics, which ended on August 11, 2024.

Hence, in preparing for the upcoming Olympics, Indonesia will have new integrated sports facilities. The coaching program will also be better with a greater potential to clinch gold medals, Ariotedjo stated.

The new training facility will also provide space for gymnastics, martial arts, and other Olympic sports, he added.

The minister is optimistic that through solid collaboration from all related stakeholders, the CYESC facility will have an impact on improving national sports achievements.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indonesia secured two gold medals contributed by Veddriq Leonardo in speed climbing and Rizki Juniansyah in the men's 73 kilogram weightlifting class. Meanwhile, badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tanjung secured a bronze medal in the women's singles.
