Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla returned back to work on Friday after taking a days off to rest on Thursday on the advice of doctors.

On Friday morning, the vice president left his official house on Diponegoro Street for his office on Veteran III Street, Central Jakarta.

At noon, Kalla will perform Friday prayers at a mosque near the Vice Presidential Palace and will then return to office to resume his tasks.

"Thank God, today, the vice president is fit enough to resume his duties as it is very important, considering the fact that the government has just rolled out a new economic policy package. He needs detailed information about it," Kallas spokesman, Husain Abdullah, remarked.

He said Kalla has also called a meeting of his staff members to obtain information related to the new economic policy package.

At 8:30 a.m. local time, on Thursday, the vice president left Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) after undergoing a medical checkup.

"I have been in the hospital for 20 hours and was examined by both the hospital and presidential medical team," Kalla informed newsmen at the hospital lobby, moments before returning to his official residence on Diponegoro Street.

Kalla explained that earlier on Wednesday, he had experienced a sense of exhaustion after attending a meeting at the Salemba campus of the University of Indonesia.

"The doctor then advised me to undergo a general checkup. Yes, it is natural that the vice president is also a human being who can fall ill," the vice president remarked.

Kalla said he was fitted with a stent in his heart by the presidential medical team, and it took 30 minutes for the doctors to complete the procedure.(*)
