In his written statement issued on Thursday, Zon said he was elected to the post of GOPAC president in an election during the 6th conference of GOPAC held in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta from Tuesday to Thursday.
He emphasized that corruption is a form of crime that deprives the public of their right to lead a prosperous life, adding that the parliament plays a strategic role in the fight against corruption.
He also underscored the need for GOPAC to encourage countries that had yet to ratify the United Nations convention on combating corruption to ratify it soon.
Before being appointed as GOPAC president, Zon was earlier GOPAC chairman for the Indonesian Chapter and board members of the organization.
