Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Chairman of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Setya Novanto, said he supported the governments effort to issue the regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) on castration punishment for sexual crimes against children.

"One of the articles of (Perppu) will include provision for castration as a form of punishment against the sexual abusers," Novanto said in a press release received here on Friday.

He said he was concerned about the issue because the number of victims of the sexual abuse crimes in Indonesia was increasing.

"We should safeguard the nations future by preventing occurrence of sexual crimes like the ones that happened in Bali and Kalideres in West Jakarta recently," the Chairman said.

There should be deterrent punishment to prevent sexual crimes in the future, Novanto added.(*)
