The statement was delivered by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi during the Asia-Europe Foreign Ministerial Meetings held in Luxembourg on November 5-6, according to a press release received here on Monday.
During the meeting, the Indonesian foreign minister highlighted the importance of enhancing transportation between Asia and Europe through air transportation via code sharing, maritime transportation by developing ports and the shipping industry, and land transportation, including the construction of roads and bridges.
The minister also emphasized the need for connectivity between Asia and Europes population, which can be achieved by enhancing cooperation through the exchange of students, think tanks, research, and culture.
In addition, the forum also discussed climate change, poverty and sustainable development, risk management and disaster mitigation, terrorism and radicalism, migration and human trafficking, peace and stability in the region, energy security, and ways to hone the skills of the younger generation.
The meeting was attended by foreign ministers and top officials from 53 countries. Federica Mogherini, the representative of the European Unions foreign ministers, was the chairman of the assembly.
The Asia-Europe Foreign Ministerial Meeting was intended to discuss the agenda of the meeting of the heads of state and government to be held in 2016.
The Asia-Europe Meeting is an informal collaboration between Asian and European countries established in 1996 to promote political, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation.
Asia and Europe together reflect the worlds power, with both continents population amounting to 60 percent of the global population.
