JAKARTA, Nov 20, 2015 (Antara) - The Southeast Asia region of Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), the world's premier peer network of chief executives and business leaders, hosted the "Insights ASEAN Summit" in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 29-30 October, convening select industry influencers who addressed an audience of 160 chief executives and prominent business leaders from around the region.
The Insights ASEAN Summit (IAS) offered peer-led discussions, keynote presentations, experiential workshops and best practice sharing how YPO members are uniquely poised to make a positive contribution to the future of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The Summit opened with a keynote with Dr. AKP Mochtan, deputy secretary-general of ASEAN for community and corporate affairs. He gave a historical view of the ASEAN journey from 1967 till 2015, "the year of the ASEAN community", sharing data showing that it is currently the third largest market in the world and the third-fastest growing economy after India and China from 2000-2013, with real GDP growth of 5.1%.
While challenges remain, including ensuring equitable and sustainable growth for its ten member states, Dr. AKP Mochtan cited "the ASEAN way", focusing on gradual growth, consensus building and collective strength, as the keys to achieving the ASEAN 2025 vision of creating a "politically cohesive, economically integrated, socially responsible, and truly people-oriented, people-centered and rules-based ASEAN".
"The integration of the ASEAN Economic Community opens a wealth of opportunities for young business leaders within the region and beyond," said Scott Mordell, CEO of YPO. "The IAS is a perfect platform for delivering valuable education, resources and insights to YPO members, who are now posed to succeed in this new economic community, and has become one of the flagship events for the global organization."
Other distinguished speakers included:
- His Excellency Drs. H. Jusuf Kalla, vice president of the Republic of Indonesia
- Ms. Susi Pudjiastuti, minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Republic of Indonesia
