He departed from Le Bourget Airport in Paris at 10:20 a.m. local time and is expected to arrive at Jakartas Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at around 11 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
"We came here to offer strong political support to COP 21. Strong political support means that we wish all development efforts must be carried out based on environment concepts," he stated in connection with the results of the COP 21.
He noted that the environment should not be ignored for the sake of high economic growth.
"The balance between the two must be maintained," he stated before departing from Paris.
President Widodo hoped the Paris agreement would reflect balance and justice based on national priorities and capacity.
The agreement must also be binding, long term, and ambitious without necessarily hindering growth in developing countries.
"To reach an agreement in Paris, all parties, I repeat, all parties must contribute more in the mitigation and adaptation efforts, especially the advanced countries," he emphasized.
The contribution includes mobilizing US$100 billion until 2020 and increasing it further in the coming years along with conducting transfer of green technology and capacity building.
"It is necessary to reach an agreement in Paris. I hope we would all be part of the solution to make the earth a better place for our grandchildren and ensure prosperity for them," he affirmed.(*)
