Indonesia wants Palestine to gain its independence from Israel`s annexation ..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will host the United Nations (UN) International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jakarta on December 14-15, 2015.
The UN Resident Coordinator for Indonesia, Douglas Broderick, stated here on Tuesday that the conference themed "Addressing the present and shaping the future of Jerusalem" will be organized by the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) and the OIC.
"The event will also explore possible ways forward for Jerusalem and its inhabitants and examine approaches to enhance international efforts to put a halt to unilateral Israeli actions," he noted.
Broderick also extended his gratitude to Indonesia for agreeing to host the conference and also praised the country for organizing capacity building programs for more than 10 thousand Palestinians by the end of 2014.
The Foreign Affairs Ministrys Director General of Multilateral Cooperation, Hasan Kleib, stated that Indonesia is fully dedicated to support the cause of Palestinian independence and to resolve conflicts between Palestine and Israel through a two-state solution.
"Indonesia wants Palestine to gain its independence from Israels annexation, and we want to assist the Palestinian people to be ready to become an independent and democratic nation," Kleib noted.
According to Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi, the Palestinians living in the Jerusalem area were not able to get jobs easily due to several restrictions imposed by the Israeli authority.
Therefore, Mehdawi said the capacity building programs for the Palestinians hold significance to train them as entrepreneurs and ultimately to create jobs for their community.
The conference will be attended by 25 member states of the CEIRPP, including Indonesia, and its 24 observer states.
The event will provide up-to-date information on the current situation to inform policy and decision makers, civil society, and the general public. It will also serve as an open platform for the exchange of information among experts, practitioners, activists, and academics.
