Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Police Chief Badrodin Haiti urged Central Sulawesi Provincial Police Chief Brigadier General Idham Azis to remain alert to the presence of the Santoso-led terrorist network as simultaneous regional head elections were held on Wednesday.

"Stay alert to the threat of Santoso et al. Do not be inattentive. Continue to guard the regional head elections until the process is completed," Badrodin informed all provincial police chiefs during a video conference held at the National Police Headquarters here on Wednesday.

He urged the police personnel assigned to secure the regional head elections in the conflict-prone district of Poso to give priority to their safety.

"Do not go alone," he stressed.

Although the police were focusing on securing the simultaneous regional head elections, the operation code-named "Camar Maleo" to hunt down the Santoso-led terrorist group will continue until the end of December 2015, he remarked.

"Continue to hunt them down. Do not lose focus of the operation as the regional head elections are being held. The operation must continue," he affirmed.

The simultaneous regional head elections were held in 264 provinces, municipalities, and districts throughout Indonesia on Wednesday. The elections in five regions were postponed.

To provide security during the elections, the National Police has deployed 192,901 personnel throughout the country.(*)
