Transmigration is also designed to create job and business opportunities ..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Marwan Jafar admitted that the transmigration program is less popular particularly among youths.
"There is an impression that those resettled through the transmigration program have no skill or competency. Consequently, the transmigration program is less popular among youths because they think that they will become conventional farmers who will live in rural areas," he said here Saturday.
Basically, the transmigration program is aimed at improving the living standard of the people and creating new civilizations through the development of new growth centers, he said.
"Transmigration is also designed to create job and business opportunities by exploring and managing potential resources in transmigration sites, reduce poverty rate, open food farms and plantations and create self-reliant businesses," he said.
In the early days of joining the transmigration program, the people will face numerous challenges. But thanks to their perseverance and spirit, these challenges may turn into golden opportunities, he said.
To familiarize the public with the transmigration program, the Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Ministry held a Javanese shadow puppet show here Friday night coinciding with the 65th Transmigration Day.
