Iwan was charged with being one of the owners of 540 kilograms of marijuana brought in from Aceh to Jakarta.
"We demand the court to give a death sentence for Iwan Setiawan alias Muniroh," said public prosecutor Leila Qadria in the trial of the suspect at the West Jakarta district court here on Thursday.
The prosecution office already demanded the same sentence to Tika Kartika alias Boy (41, facing similar charge in earlier trial by the same court.
Both Iwan and Tika were charged with criminal conspiracy by committing drug trafficking,with a number of his friends.
The case was unveiled after the arrest of two marijuana traffickers on April 10, 2015 -- Muhamad Saleh and Syahbuddin in Palembang, South Sumatra.
The two were caught with 16.5 sacks of dry marijuana leaves totaling 540 kilograms using a truck.
The arrest of the two men led to the nabbing of DIwan Setiawan alias Muniroh, who owned part of the drug on April 12, 2015. Iwan was picked by police from his house in Ciputat Tangerang.
Iwan told his investigators that another part of the drug belonged to Ramli Usman, who was then arrested from his house in Depok.
Tika told the court, that on order from Ramli, he was to pick the marijuana upon arrival in Jakarta to be brought to Ramlis house in Depok.
For that job he was promised a pay of Rp100,000 per kilogram of the drug . Tika was arrested in his house in Meruyung, Depok.
The Indonesian government adopted a heavier punishment for drug dealers .
President Joko Widodo, describing the country in drug crisis , has said he would not give clemency to drug convicts.
This year the country has executed more than ten drug convicts mostly foreigners, drawing international protests.(*)
