Balikpapan, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The police have named 33 suspects in connection with the December 19 arson attack on the North Kalimantan gubernatorial office.

"Right now, 32 suspects are detained at the East Kalimantan provincial police station, while one suspect identified by the initials MB has not been detained as he is cooperating in the investigation process and has vowed to not influence the other witnesses or suspects," spokesman for the East Kalimantan provincial police Senior Commissioner Fajar Setiawan noted here on Tuesday.

MB is North Kalimantans vice gubernatorial candidate who has teamed up with Jusuf Serang Kasim (SK).

"MB is not detained as he will still file a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court. The dossier of his case will soon be completed and handed over to the Bulungan public prosecutors office as per the location of incident," Fajar revealed.

If the suspects are found guilty, they could face a jail term of up to five years.

"After they were detained, the security situation in Bulungan has now become conducive. The incident is a pure crime, so it will hopefully not incite the public," he affirmed.

Some supporters of the gubernatorial candidate pair of Jusuf SK-MB staged a rally to protest against alleged money politics involving the gubernatorial candidate pair of Irianto Lambrie-Udin Hianggio.

The demonstrators also accused the local elections commission of turning a blind eye to the higher number of abstainers.

According to the result of a quick count, the gubernatorial candidate pair of Irianto Lambrie and Udin Hianggio is leading in the gubernatorial election. (*)
