"All such cases will be settled this year," President Jokowi said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo pledged here on Friday that this year he would settle all cases connected to human rights violations that happened in Indonesia.
"All such cases will be settled this year," President Jokowi, as he is also called, said at the State Palace after a lunch meeting with journalists covering presidential activities.
The cases will be settled irrespective of when such violations had occurred. These cases will also include the one about rights violations in 1965 that has often led to heated debates.
"All such cases will be settled this year, regardless of when these happened," he said.
President Jokowi said last year the government faced a tough economic challenge, so the human rights violations cases would be settled this year.
"Last year, our economic challenge was big," he said.
He said law enforcers, including personnel from the police, the attorney general office and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), would be assigned to settle these cases.
He said the economic challenges that Indonesia faces would continue and would depend on the global economic developments.
Regarding the number of human rights cases to be settled, the President said these would be taken up one by one.
"These cases would be settled one by one but all of these will be dealt with this year," he said.(*)
