Pontianak (ANTARA News) - Police of West Kalimantan Province is to deploy its personnel to 1,200 viharas or Buddhist temples in Pontianak to guard the Chinese New Year celebration.

Within the Liong Kapuas 2016 operation, the police officers will provide and ensure public safety during the celebration of the Chinese New Year and Cap Go Meh in the province, Chief of West Kalimantan Police Office Brigadier General Pol. Arief Sulistyanto said here Saturday.

"We will conduct a thorough and comprehensive security measure to make a conducive public safety in West Kalimantan," Sulistyanto said.

The police will be supported by the military personnel, Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers, and some community institutions.

The Singkawang District will receive special security treatment as the region will be the main destination of domestic and international tourists celebrating the Cap Go Meh.

The Chinese New Years Day is the first day of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which falls on February 8 this year.

Meanwhile, people celebrate Cap Go Meh on the 15th day after the Chinese New Year.
