Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said that Indonesia chalked up a trade surplus of US$1.14 billion February, 2016.+

The country exported US$11.30 billion in February as against imports of US$10.16 billion.

"The surplus of 1.14 billion was the largest recorded by the country in the past five years," head of BPS Suryamin told reporters here on Tuesday.

Suryamin said in February, 2013, the country suffered a trade deficit of US$732.4 million and in the same month in 2014 and 2015 there were surpluses of US$844.4 million and US$662.7 million respectively.

He said in trade volume in February 2016, there was a surplus of 25.51 million tons.

The export value of US$11.3 billion in February represented an increase of 7.80 percent from the previous month but down 7.18 percent year-on-year.

Imports of US$10.16 billion in February, 2016 were 2.91 percent lower than imports in January, 2016, and 11.71 percent smaller year-on-year.

Cumulatively, the trade in the first two months of 2016 recorded a surplus of US$1.15 billion with exports totaling US$21.78 billion as against imports of US$20.63 billion.

The two month exports were 14.32 percent lower year-on-year with exports of commodities other than oil gas down 9.89 percent to US$19.56 billion in the first two months of the year.

The value of imports until February this year was 14.48 percent lower year-on-year to US$20.63 billion with imports of commodities other than oil and gas down 9.83 percent to US$18.29 billion.(*)
