Bantul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - As many as 21 couples were officially married on Monday on board an airplane in Yogyakarta.

The wedding ceremony took place aboard the airplane parked at the Yogyakartas Aviation Technology Academy. The wedding was conducted free of any expenses, and was organized by the local administration and communities.

"Twenty-one couples said the sacred vows inside the Boeing 737-200 during a commemoration of STTKD (Aviation Technology Academy) on the occasion of Yogyakartas 21st anniversary," Head of Organizing Committee of the collective wedding Ryan Budi Nuryanto said here on Monday.

The married couples were residents of Indramayu, West Java; Cilacap, Central Java; Banyuasin, South Sumatra and Yogyakarta.

Ten of the couples were disabled persons who participated in the collective wedding.

Some of the married couples had met through a dating event held last month.

The brides received some dowry and packages of cosmetics, spa treatment and a honey moon stay in a star hotel in Yogyakarta.

The ceremony was followed by a party called "angkringan".

A blood donation camp was held as a side event to the main wedding ceremony by Indonesias Red Cross in Bantul, Yogyakarta.

"This might be the worlds first collective wedding on a plane and will be forever remembered," Nuryanto said.(*)
