Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said two successive caught red handed operations (OTT) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) were evidence that reform in the attorney general office has failed.
"The two OTTs have to be interpreted that the institution of the counsel for the prosecution is not yet clean from corrupt officials and judicial Mafia," an ICW researcher Emerson Yuntho said via a short message here on Tuesday.
Emerson referred to the arrest of two prosecutors of the High Prosecution office of West Java on Monday and the implication of two other prosecutors of the Jakarta High Prosecution in a graft case earlier.
Both cases were the results of OTTs by KPK.
Emerson said the results of the operations showed that internal supervision at the attorney general office has not functioned properly.
He said Attorney General M Prasetyo should apologize to the public and then tender his resignation.
He said the attorney general has failed to fulfill his commitment to uproot corrupt officials from his agency.
If M Prasetyo refused to reign , President Joko Widodo should use the two OTT cases in considering his replacement.
"The president should replace the attorney general," he said, adding the replacement could be part of expected cabinet reshuffle.
He said a new attorney general should be one with known credibility and boldness to clean the institution and against judicial Mafia.
The candidate should not be from any of the political parties, he added.
"Attorney general should serve as the right hand of the president in eradicating corruption, instead of one embarasshing Jokowi," he said.(*)
