"The Special Committee on the Terrorism Bill will be headed by M. Syafii from Gerindra and deputy chairmen: Hanafi Rais from PAN, Syaiful Bahri Ansori from PKB, and Supriyadin from Nasdem," Zon remarked here, Monday.
The elected members are from the Houses Commission I and III.
The bill on terrorism must no solely focus on action but also on prevention, Zon affirmed.
"Do not become a country that uses the security approach similar to what had been followed in the past," he pointed out.
In preventing terrorism, the authorities must also uphold human rights to prevent the recurrence of the tragic incident involving Siyono, who died in the custody of the Polices Special Detachment Densus 88, he emphasized.
The presumption of innocence must also be upheld in dealing with terrorism.
"The legal rights of any individual must be respected, including those of terror suspects," he remarked.
To curb radicalism, the nation needs to promote pluralism and the principle of Unity in Diversity (Bhineka Tunggal Ika), he added.(*)
