"The officers were pursuing a courier who brought methamphetamine from Malaysia to Samarinda on 4 April 2016," the chief of the agency, Budi Waseso, said here on Wednesday.
Waseso added that the courier was crossing from Tarakan - Tanjung Selor, Samarinda when officers arrested the suspect, identified as HEN, in the Mount Tabur area.
According to Waseso, at least 2.8 kilograms of methamphetamine were seized during the arrest.
He said the dealers divided the methamphetamine into three parts, including 2.8 kilograms to be delivered to Samarinda, 8 kilograms to Makassar and a kilogram to Palu.
The officers also chased a courier who was carrying the drugs to Makassar.
The agency believes the perpetrators are still located in Bone of South Sulawesi Province. Waseso added that officers pursued the courier to Pattiro Sompe Village in Sibulue Sub-district of Bone.
"The target escaped after becoming aware that officers were coming to his hideout. The officers seized 8 kilograms of methamphetamine from the house," Waseso added.
He noted that the drug network is controlled by a prisoner who is confined at Tarakan jail in North Kalimantan.(*)
