Seoul, S. Korea (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo, or also well-known as Jokowi, has introduced Indonesias potential areas of economic growth to hundreds of South Korean businessmen to promote investment and business in the country.

"Despite an unstable global economy, a slowdown in the Chinese stock market, and a dip in the oil prices in the United States, the rupiah has remained stable," the president noted in his speech at a business forum titled "Morning Tea with President Jokowi" in Seoul on Monday morning local time.

The president remarked that Indonesia was building several infrastructure facilities, including highways, railways, seaports, airports, and irrigation dams.

The infrastructure projects are not only being built in Java Island but also in remote areas, such as South Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Papua.

According to Jokowi, advancements in the field of information and communication technology can strengthen the relations between Indonesia and South Korea.

In addition, the president said the government was conducting a deregulation in the economic sector to facilitate ease of investment in businesses.

"We will also carry out economic reforms, simplify business regulations and investment, and open up areas for economic cooperation," the president emphasized.

Some 450 South Korean businessmen are participating in the business event.

Several Indonesian officials, including Economy Minister Darmin Nasution, Trade Minister Thomas Lembong, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Franky Sibarani, also attended the forum.

After attending the forum, President Jokowi is scheduled to conduct one-on-one business meetings with top officials of the Lotte Group and major steel producer Posco.

The president will attend a business luncheon with 20 South Korean leading business players.

Minister Marsudi revealed that seven memoranda of understanding (MoUs) will be signed for establishing cooperation in several areas, including maritime, eradication of corruption, sports, and geospatial and peatland management.

The MoUs will be inked by the ministers of both countries and will be witnessed by President Jokowi and President Park Geun-hye.

The president is on a state visit to South Korea on May 15-18 and will continue his official trip to Sochi, Russia, to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit on May 19-20, 2016.(*)
