MOTOBOT is designed and engineered with a focus on riding and operating a motorcycle from the same perspective as a human rider without any modifications being made to the motorcycle itself. MOTOBOT was first unveiled for public viewing at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2015, where it immediately drew widespread attention in Japan and abroad.
MOTOBOT is being developed under the theme of going "Beyond Human Capabilities." In general, robots are machines designed for specific tasks and can thus exceed human capabilities in performing said tasks. Taking advantage of this potential for excellence, MOTOBOT declared in the first video titled "To 'The Doctor'" that it had taken on the challenge of competing against MotoGP star Valentino Rossi through racetrack lap times. In this sequel video titled "MOTOBOT Meets The Doctor," the two finally meet face to face for the first time. Rossi shows his fascination when he first sees MOTOBOT. What exchange takes place between Rossi and one of the MOTOBOT engineers? Don't miss this exciting encounter!
Yamaha Motor is collaborating with SRI International, one of the world's leading R&D centers, to develop MOTOBOT, and will put the knowledge and underlying high-level fundamental technology gained from this challenge to use in product development and towards creating new value.
