London (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Embassy in Paris, France, along with the Indonesian diaspora in the country have promoted the nations arts and cultures in the annual "Carnaval Tropical de Paris 2016."

Indonesias participation in the event aims at introducing and promoting the traditional arts and cultures, according to a press statement from the embassy received by ANTARA News here on Tuesday.

The annual event is related to the Euro 2016 and French candidacy to host the Olympic Games 2024. Therefore, the carnival this year was held based on the theme of "Sport and Culture."

The carnival took place on the weekend, covering a distance of 2.5 kilometers from Place de lHotel de Ville and ended in front of the Cirque dHiver Filles de Calvaire.

As many as 2.5 thousand people, comprising 27 groups of four musicians and dancers as well as invited guests from Brazil, Spain, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Haiti, and Indonesia took part in the carnival.

The carnival was witnessed directly by at least 100 thousand people, who thronged its route.

The event was covered by several television stations, in particular, France Television (France O) and Outremer premiere television.

During the event, Indonesia showcased traditional music and costumes from across the nation.

Indonesias performances were well-received by both the locals and foreigners, who lauded the countrys arts and cultures.

It is expected that Indonesia will participate in the carnival in 2017 by showcasing Reog Ponorogo, which is a traditional dance from Ponorogo District, East Java Province.
