"We are all aware of his positive achievements, and I hope he will continue to excel in the field," Kalla stated at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
The vice president also hoped that his candidacy will prompt Tito to lead Polri with good will.
"We hope it will be a positive boost for him," he added.
President Joko Widodo had earlier proposed Police Commissioner Karnavian, the incumbent National Anti-Terrorism Board Chairman, as the head of Polri.
"Tito Karnavians name is proposed by the president," Presidential Special Staff Johan Budi affirmed.
President Widodo had delivered a letter, seeking the approval of the Police chiefs candidacy, which he had signed on Wednesday, on June 15, to the House of Representatives. The nomination of the head of Polri is done in accordance with the Indonesian Laws on the Indonesian Police Force.
The president had considered the advice of various parties, including Polri, as well as the public before ultimately choosing Karnavian, Johan revealed.
The other selection criteria for Karnavians nomination were to boost Polris professionalism as the publics protector as well as to improve the quality of law enforcement, especially in facing major issues, such as drug abuse, terrorism, and corruption, and simultaneously intensifying synergy between Polri and other law enforcement institutions.
Karnavian is still serving as chairman of the National Anti-Terrorism Board.(*)
