"This is a matter of someones life. Despite their status as convicts, they need to be respected. Lets not speculate on the exact time of their sentences," said Prasetyo, following the handover ceremony for the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs position in the Ministry offices in Jakarta, Thursday.
Based on ANTARAs observation on the Wijayapura dock, Cilacap, from Thursday morning until the afternoon, none of the convicts family members were seen to have crossed over to Nusakambangan islands.
Yet, Head of Cilacap Police Public Relations Bintoro Wasono said that family visits have ended for now.
"There are no more family visits for today. There might be two family members who will be asked to cross to Nusakambangan island to bring home the remains of the convicts after the executions," he said.
The death sentences for a number of drug crime convicts were expected to be carried out on Friday, July 29, in the Panaluan Shooting Range in Nusakambangan islands.
The executions were expected after 17 ambulances were seen entering the island on Thursday morning.
From what was learned following previous executions, ambulances that will carry the remains of the convicts following the executions enter Nusakambangan island a few hours before the sentences are carried out.
On top of that, about 14 patrol cars from the Central Java Police have been stationed in front of Pandu Station, adjacent to the Wijayapura dock, since early Thursday. The patrol cars are on standby to escort the ambulances.
Despite the information available from the scene, the Attorney General has yet to release the names of the convicts who have been sentenced to death or the times when the executions will be carried out.
According to the information compiled by Antara, the convicts who have been moved into to the isolation rooms in the Batu detention center include Freddy Budiman (Indonesia), Merri Utami (Indonesia), Zulfiqar Ali (Pakistan), Gurdip Singh (India), Abina Nwajaen (Nigeria) and Michael Titus Igweh (Nigeria).(*)
