"Unity is what we need today and tomorrow," Chairman of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan has opined that unity and cooperation are the keys to the nations strength.

"Unity is what we need today and tomorrow," Hasan emphasized in his opening remarks during the annual session of the MPR at the Parliament Building here, Tuesday.

"Without unity, there is no Indonesia. Without unity, Indonesia would not survive. Without unity, there would not be progress in Indonesia," he noted while addressing President Joko Widodo, Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla, members of the House of Representatives, and the Regional Representative Council.

Hasan also emphasized the need to continue promoting democracy that had been achieved.

"Democracy is not only limited to procedure and institution. Strong efforts are needed to ensure that democracy plays a role in developing the nation," he affirmed.

With serious hard work, the countrys problems, including economic issues, could be dealt with, he noted.

The commitment of every stakeholder is also needed to solve various problems being faced by the nation, Hasan added.

Former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, former president BJ Habibie, former vice president Try Sutrisno, former vice president Boediono, and former president Abdurrahman Wahids wife, Shinta Nuriyah, were among those present at the occasion.(*)
