Samosir, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana planted several trees in Tomok village, Simanindo Sub-district, Samosir District, North Sumatra Province, on Sunday.

Jokowi asked local community to make Lake Toba area green again.

The Head of State urged the public to take care of the trees so they would grow well.

"Until December 2016, one million trees will be planted. I want all of them to grow well. Dont let only 100 grow out of the one million trees that have been planted," Jokowi said before hundreds of students and scout members participating in the three planting program.

The environmental affairs and forestry ministry will provide water pumps to water the trees, he said.

In Tomok village, tress including fruit bearing ones, will be planted in a plot of land measuring 150 hectares which will be developed into a botanical garden.

"I hope that one day this botanical garden will become a good research center. Once again, please take care of the trees so they will grow," he remarked.

Among those attending the tree planting program were Environmental Affairs and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno and PDIP politician and legislator Maruarar Sirait, as well as Samosir District Head Rapidin Simbolon. (*)
