BG will definitely be unable to handle any problems at home and abroad."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Constitutional expert Margarito said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has made the right choice in appointing Commissioner General Budi Gunawan (BG) as the head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
Commissioner General Budi Gunawan is a man of proven ability.
"I think the appointment of BG as the chief of the BIN is right," Margarito stated in Jakarta.
He argued that BG is familiar with the intelligence related work since it is something of a daily job for him. Margarito noted that BGs leadership of the BIN will help improve the way the emerging problems would be handled since he has built reliable networks.
"He (BG) has an extensive network. BG will definitely be unable to handle any problems at home and abroad," he underlined.
President Jokowi appointed BG as the new chief of BIN, replacing retired Lt Gen. Sutiyoso.
BG, however, has yet to undergo through the fit and proper test by the House of Representatives.
The House leadership had earlier received a letter intimating it about the need to replace the BIN head, and proposing to appoint Commissioner General BG in place of Sutiyoso. The letter of replacement was handed over by Minister/State Secretary M Pratikno.
Pratikno noted that Sutiyoso was replaced to breathe a new life into the organization, adding that the BIN chief does not enjoy a fixed tenure.
Rumors about BGs appointment as deputy police chief were rife when he had failed in his bid to become the police chief in July.
The House of Representatives will conduct a fit and proper test on Commissioner General Budi Gunawan as the sole candidate for the post of chief of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN).
"We will hold the fit and proper test next week," Chairman of the House of Representatives Ade Komaruddin informed here on Friday.
"We will discuss the fit and proper test issue at the leaders meeting. The consultation meeting will be held on Monday. Commission I will, thereafter, announce the schedule of the fit and proper test during the nearest plenary session," Komaruddin disclosed.
The test will be led by the deputy chairmen of the House of Representatives, namely Taufik Kurniawan, Fadli Zon and Fachri Hamzah.
Komaruddin was scheduled to lead the supervisory team to oversee the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Meanwhile, Agus Hermanto was scheduled to attend a meeting of the House speakers of the ASEAN in Laos.
The House leaders had received a letter from President Joko Widodo regarding the replacement of the BIN chairman. The letter stated that National Police Deputy Chief Commissioner Gen. Budi Gunawan would replace Sutiyoso as the BIN director.
The letter was delivered directly by State Secretary Pratikno.
