Canada will work with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to support efforts made by ASEAN members in defending migrant workers, especially female employees, the prime minister said in a statement received by ANTARA here on Tuesday.
"This plan ensures that migrant workers get fair economic and social benefits, and helps workers mobility across the ASEAN region," Trudeau said.
The donation, which will be provided in five years, will be spent for projects promoting dialogue on regional regulations establishment among the ASEAN member countries.
It is expected that there will be migrant workers management that can protect them and boost equal and inclusive growth in the ASEAN region.
ILO has a global mandate and responsibility to make international standards on labor and labor relations, protect the rights of all workers, including migrant laborers.
It uses a tripartite structure, consisting of governments, employers, and workers that produce collective solutions.
In 2013, there were approximately 6.5 million citizens from ASEAN countries, who migrated to other countries within the ASEAN region to work.
Of this number, female workers were pegged at 47.8 percent. (*)
