The dollar depreciated against several global major currencies, including the rupiah, ahead of the US presidential debate, Monex Investindo Futures' chief researcher, Ariston Tjendra, said on Monday.
"Investors will pay attention to the debate between the US presidential candidates which, they believe, can determine the direction of investment," he added.
It seems that market agents would take caution and eye risky currencies due to their interesting yields offered amidst uncertainty about the US political condition, he stated.
Samuel Sekuritas' economist Rangga Cipta, meanwhile, said positive sentiments towards Bank Indonesias decision to cut its interest rate (7-day repo rate) and euphoria about the governments tax amnesty program are still quite strong to keep the rupiah stable.
On the other hand, rising global crude prices early this week had a positive impact on the local unit.
WTI Crude rose 0.76 percent to US$44.82 per barrel, and Brent Crude increased 0.74 percent to US$46.23 per barrel.
According to Bank Indonesia mid-rate, the rupiah strengthened to 13,076 per dollar on Monday from 13,098 on the previous day.(*)
