Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives Agus Hermanto, who led the DPR plenary session, banged the gavel as a sign of the DPRs approval to pass into law the Bill on the Paris agreement.
Earlier, the Chairman of the DPRs Commission VII on environment, Gus Irawan, said during the discussion at the DPRs Consultative Body and Commission VII, all factions agreed to take the governments proposal on Draft Law on the Paris Agreement to the plenary meeting.
Agus, who is the Gerindra Party politician, said the approval accorded to the Draft Law on the Paris Agreement is binding on all environment stakeholders, especially in the face of climate change.
The Paris Agreement is legally binding and applicable to all with the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities based on their respective capabilities and affixes responsibility on the developed countries to provide funding, capacity building and transfer of technology to the developing countries.
According to Gus Irawan, Indonesia has regulations and legislation related to the implementation of the Paris Agreement, which aims to control excess emissions.(*)
