"Regulations need to be in order to ensure that the country has the best legal instruments. I hope that the DPR and DPD cooperate with each other so that they can work to rectify the overlapping regulations one by one," he said after meeting with the heads of state institutions at the Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday.
President Joko Widodo also sought support from the institutions to overcome the problem of overlapping regulations.
At the meeting, the President also urged the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission to lend support to the efforts to eradicate the "court mafia" in the country.
He reminded that the law enforcement officials must be able to work with full integrity.
"Reforms within the law enforcement agencies are expected to enable law enforcement officials to work with integrity and more professionally. I also called for support from the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission to eradicate court mafia or case brokers," he reiterated.
During the meeting, President Joko Widodo also heard the feedback and inputs from the heads of the institutions.
These heads included the chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR), Zulkifli Hasan; House Speaker Ade Komarudin; chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Mohammad Saleh; Supreme Court chief justice Muhammad Hatta Ali; head of the Constitutional Court, Arief Hidayat; head of the Judicial Commission, Aidul Fitriciada Azhari; and chief of the Supreme Audit Board, Harry Azhar Azis.
At the meeting, President Joko Widodo was flanked by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Coordinating Minister for Human Resource Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.(*)
