The two of us share the same spirit for the Red and White , the national integrity, Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution and the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika," the president said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - General Chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto visited President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the state palace on Thursday discussing wide range of issues mainly national integrity.
It was return visit for one by Jokowi to the house of Prabowo later last month, and came a few days after the massive rally that turn violent earlier this month.
"I and Mr Prabowo discussed national affairs. The two of us share the same spirit for the Red and White , the national integrity, Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution and the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity)," the president told reporters.
Prabowo and Jokowi were rivals in the 2014 presidential race.
He said he and his rival in the last presidential election, are committed to the national unity .
The president repeated stressing national integrity in his speeches over the past week following the massive rally on Nov. 4 that almost ended in big riot by Islamic organizations, which demanded the prosecution of Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (AHOK) for alleged blasphemy.
He reminded religious leaders, the military and police of responsibility for national unity .
Jokowi said in the one hour meeting he and Prabowo also global economy and other international issues.
"This is a return visit . I think it is a good tradition of us to visit each other," he said.
Prabowo said he was committed to helping reduce tension in the public after the Nov. 4 rally or demonstration plan on Nov 25.
"I would not hesitate to call for calm. We should not fight against each other," he said.(*)
