Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) said it would summon police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian related to his statement about potential makar (rebellion) in the planned rally by several Islamic organizations here on Dec. 2.

Explanation is needed about the reason for the statement by the police chief, Deputy Chairman of the Commission III Benny K. Harman said.

"Commission III of DPR will summon the police chief . We will ask for explanation openly about his reasons for speaking about possible makar based on intelligence information. Who (were the plotters of makar) as said by the intelligence," Benny said here on Thursday.

He said he regretted the police chief publicly throwing such dangerous statement without first studying the accuracy of the information.

The lawmaker from the Democratic Party said if there is indeed intelligence report , the information should first be thoroughly studied before it was made public.

Making public information without checking its accuracy risk creating panic and speculation, he added.

Benny said it is not impossible that the position of the police chief is reviewed as he made the people to suspect and accuse each other with his statement.

"It is not healthy for the development of our democracy," he said.

He warned that police chief is dismissed and appointed by the president with the approval of DPR.

"Such statements should be issued after a coordination meeting, but apparently it was not as the defense minister and deputy police chief said they had no such information," he said.

Benny asked the police chief works not on message from sponsor saying "Take pity on the nation which is building democracy."

He said the police chief , who is responsible for the national security should not give impression that he was serving a certain political power.

Earlier General Tito Karnavian said he would closely watch the Friday rally as it is potential to lead to toppling the government.

Tito said he received information about plan to take control the Parliament building in Senayan, Jakarta.

"If that is intended to topple the government, it would be a makar (rebellion) case," Tito said here earlier this week.

He said based on the law, taking control of government buildings is a breach of the law.

In addition Tito said he had information about meetings on the plan to take control of the Parliament buildings.(*)
