"Everything is under control now. There is no more violence in Rakhine," Myanmar ambassador to Indonesia Aung Htoo said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Myanmar ambassador to Indonesia Aung Htoo said here on Thursday that the situation in Rakhine, where ethnic Rohingyas live, has been brought under control.
"Everything is under control now. There is no more violence in Rakhine," he said when asked at the ministry of foreign affairs building.
He noted that the Myanmar government has provided latest information regarding the condition of the Rohingya.
"Every day we produce statements and information in case an incident happens there," he said.
Aung Htoo said conflicts between the military and community groups in Rakhine have also decreased.
"There have not been so many clashes between the two groups in Rakhine," he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesias deputy foreign minister, A.M. Fachir, said the Indonesian government has taken a comprehensive approach toward the government of Myanmar, with regard to dealing with humanitarian problems faced by the Rohingya in that country.
"Our approach is comprehensive, and so cases (of the Rohingya) must be seen from all aspects. Myanmar has problems. All countries have problems. In Myanmar there is a citizenship issue," he said.
He noted that the problem of the Rohingya is connected with human rights issues, and so the approach used to settle it must be based upon humanitarian principles.
"This is connected with human rights and humanitarian issues and so, in helping them, we must respect domestic issues and efforts taken must help consolidate them," he said.
Fachir added that there has been a change and progress with regard to the citizenship issue of the Rohingya.
"There has been progress. Before, the Rohingya were not recognized, but now they have been documented. This is progress. Certainly the problem is not so simple that it could be settled immediately. The first approach is an emergency step which is a humanitarian effort, he said.
The Indonesian government has expressed concern over the humanitarian problem faced by the Rohingya and hoped stability could be achieved immediately in Myanmar.
Indonesia has helped in the process of capacity building in the Rakhine state. "We have given help so that people who have fallen victims would be dealt with correctly. We hope steps that have been taken, such as building schools, could embrace all elements in the Rakhine state," he said.(*)
