Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - The Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has recorded 74 aftershocks following a 6.5-magnitude earthquake that hit Pidie Jaya and surrounding areas in Aceh Province on Dec 7.

The magnitudes of the aftershocks were smaller than that of the strong earthquake, BMKG spokesman Hary T Djatmiko said in a statement, Sunday.

In the morning of Sunday, there were two aftershocks measuring 3.5 and 5.3 on the Richter Scale respectively, and six aftershocks on Saturday, seven on Friday, 14 on Thursday, and 45 on Wednesday.

The tremors have traumatized local inhabitants who are reluctant to return to their homes.

The social affairs ministry has set up nine refugee camps, respectively in Rieng Blang village, Meureudu Sub-district, accommodating 500 people, in West Meuraksa village, Meureudu Sub-district (800 people), in Paru Lueng Putu village, Bandar Dua Sub-district (700 people), in Meunasah Bi and Mancang villages.

Also in Meurah Dua Sub-district (800 people), in Meunasah Balik Village, Meuereudu Sub-district (3000 people), in Pangwa Me, Trienggadeng Sub-district (600 people), Pante Reng Samalanga (1,100 people), in Meunasah Juroeng village (1,300), and Trienggadeng village (700 people), both in Pidie Jaya.

The earthquake occurred at 5:03am local time, last Wednesday, and was felt in the districts of Pidie Jaya, Pidie, Aceh Besar, Sabang, Bireun, and Lhokseumawe.

As many as 103 people were killed and some 8,000 others injured in the natural disaster.

Some 3,962 personnel have helped in handling earthquake victims in Pidie Jaya, Pidie and Bireuen," Head of Information and Data Center and Public Relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said in a press statement received here Saturday.

Based on BNPB data, there are 45,329 evacuees, with 43,613 of them now in Pidie Jaya, and 1,716 in Bireuen, he said.

At least 108 shop houses had collapsed, 31 were heavily damaged, three moderately and 15 lightly damaged, while 2,992 homes had been heavily damaged, 94 moderately and 8,582 lightly damaged, he stated.

Some 64 mosques and other buildings had been damaged, while 14,800 meters of roads had cracked, and 55 bridges sustained damage,
