Gen. Karnavian when giving his remarks before thousands of Muslims attending the event, said Islam is a blessing for every human being, regardless of race, religion, or tribe.
"Islam is not only for the people of Sunda or Java or Papua but for all human beings," the Police Chief said.
"Although we live with diversity among tribes, races, and religions, we must promote tolerance. Islam is not only for indigenous people or those of a certain ancestry, but Islam is for all human beings," he reiterated.
He asked all Muslims to respect Christmas, which will be celebrated by Christians in the days to come.
Before the mass prayer, thousands of Muslims performed a dawn (Fajr) prayer at the Islamic Preaching Center in Bandung.
The prayer was also attended by Governor of West Java Ahmad Heryawan, Deputy Governor of West Java Deddy Mizwar, and Mayor of Bandung Ridwan Kamil.
