Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani is targeting professionals who have yet to declare their wealth and assets, as the participants in the third round of the tax amnesty program.

"The opportunity will last only for three months. In terms of the number of participants, we expect more number of professionals or other formal workers (to join)," Mulyani stated here, Monday.

For the third round, the tax authority will rely on a socialization program to attract new participants, both professionals and workers of certain sectors, to take part in the tax amnesty program.

The socialization program will be conducted after a seven-month evaluation of the implementation of the tax amnesty program and specifically focus on potential taxpayers who can significantly contribute to the state revenue.

"We are going to hold the socialization program based on our data for 2016 and 2017, including the segment (of participants) that needs to be addressed based on their ability to generate tax revenue," Mulyani remarked.

The minister explained that some professionals or formal workers, with above average income, had not significantly contributed to boosting tax revenues. She admitted that mining, fishery, and economic activities based on the production structure were some segments registering the lowest contribution to tax revenues.

Although affirming that small and medium enterprises (SME) were still the focus in the third round, Mulyani said that it was no longer the key priority, taking into account the required flat rate for SME for the three phases.

Speaking in connection with December 31 as the last day for the two tax amnesty phases, Indonesias Directorate General of Taxes has collected 638,033 asset declaration letters and 670,625 tax payment slips from 616,372 taxpayers who had participated in the tax amnesty program.

The established rates of repatriation and declaration in the third phase of the tax amnesty program, which will last until March 31, 2017, are five percent for domestic and 10 percent for overseas declaration.(*)
