The candidates are Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, with his running mate former Jakarta administration official, Sylviana Murni (woman); incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, popularly known as Ahok, and vice governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat; and former education minister Anies Baswedan and businessman Sandiaga Uno as his running mate.
Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono is the first of the two sons of former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The General Election Commission (KPU DKI) had set the dates for these debates. While the first was held on January 13, the second was on January 27 and the last was on February 10, prior to the D-Day on February 15, 2017.
Since October 28 last year, candidates have been campaigning for the election. The campaigning stage ends on February 11 for a cooling-off period until February 15.
Questions for the pairs of candidates in the last debate were prepared by four panelists, namely the University of Indonesias (UI) development sociologist Meuthia Ganie Rochman; professor of economics of the UI Prijono Tjiptherijanto; sociologist from the Jakartas State Islamic University (UIN) Prof Komaruddin Hidayat; and Advisor of Disability Rights Network, Tolhas Damanik.(*)
