... the woman was found to be holding an Indonesian passport."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Embassy to Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur has confirmed that a female suspect named in the murder of a North Korean named Kim Jong Nam in Malaysia was found to be an Indonesian, an official said here on Thursday.
"According to personal data delivered by the Malaysian security authority, the Indonesian Embassy had conducted a verification, and based on the data from the embassy, the woman was found to be holding an Indonesian passport," Director of Indonesian Citizens Protection of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lalu Muhammad Iqbal said in a statement received here on Thursday.
Following the verification, the Indonesian Embassy requested the Malaysian Government to provide a consular access in order to provide assistance and ensure proper legal rights to the suspect.
The embassy has kept the communication line with the Malaysian authority open with regard to this matter, Iqbal stated.
Previously, the Malaysian police detained a female suspect in connection with the murder of the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The female suspect was said to hold an Indonesian passport.
She was positively identified from the CCTV footage at the Kuala Lumpur airport, the police said in a statement, adding that the arrest was made at 0200 local time on Thursday.
Malaysian police on Wednesday detained another woman holding Vietnam travel papers. The police stated that they were looking for "few" other foreign suspects in connection with the apparent assassination of Kim Jong Nam at the Kuala Lumpur airport.
