Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of Hatta Ali as the new chairman of the Supreme Court (MA) for the 2017-2022 period.

Ali was installed as the new MA chief here, Wednesday, based on Presidential Decree no. 28 P of 2017.

Among high-ranking officials present at the ceremony were Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly Zulkifli Hasan, House Speaker Setya Novanto, Chairman of the Constitutional Court Arief Hidayat, Chairman of the Regional Representative Council Mohammad Saleh, Chairman of the Supreme Audit Board Harris Azhar Azis, Chairman of the Judicial Commission Aidul Fitrichiada Azhari, National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian, Chief of the National Defense Forces General Gatot Nurmantyo, Attorney General M. Prasetyo, Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Alexander Marwata, and several ministers.

Ali was re-elected as MA chairman on February 14, 2017, after receiving 38 votes from 47 judges of the MA.

Ali had been the MA chief for the 2012-2017 period, succeeding Harifin A. Tumpa.

He earlier held the posts of MA spokesman and chairman of the Association of Indonesian Judges, among others.(*)
