The compensation, of Rp15 thousand (Rp90 million in total) for each of the victims, was handed over to the families of the victims.
In addition, the minister also handed Rp5 million compensation to each of the two victims who were seriously injured in the landslide.
Apart from the financial compensation, the Social Affairs Ministry provided logistic aid in the form of 50 tons of rice from the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) and other logistics, such as side dishes, clothing, and mats worth more than Rp140 million.
The ministry had also submitted a water tank unit worth Rp375 million, bringing the total aid delivered to around Rp1,059 billion.
Heavy rains that occurred for a few days since Thursday (March 2) resulted in flooding and landslides.
On the occasion, the minister also offered condolences to the families of the victims.
"Hopefully, the injured victims will recover soon," Khofifah pointed out.
The heavy rains caused Sumpur River to overflow and cause landslides in several areas.
The floods and landslides affected the eight sub-districts of Pangkalan, Kapur IX, Mungka, Harau, Payakumbuh, Lareh Sago Halaban, Sulikik, and Empat Barisan.
Earlier, Chief of the BNPB Data and Information Center and Public Relations Sutopo Purwo Nugroho stated here on Saturday (March 4) that hundreds of houses were flooded, including 150 houses in Jorong Ranah Pasar, 50 in Jorong Ranah Baru, and 50 in Jorong Abai.(*)
