Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An Indonesian senior minister praised Elia Massa Manik, the newly named president director of the countrys state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, as a restructuring expert.

"I know it from the media and I know him personally too. He once worked with me in settling problems in Elnusa. He also performed well when he was at the helm of the plantation holding company PT Perkebunan (PTPN III). He is an expert in restructuring and is very strong," coordinating minister for maritime affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said here on Thursday

He expressed hope that Massa would incorporate improved, efficient measures at Pertamina that many quarters have expected, besides increasing the use of local contents in its businesses.

"I think Massa understands the company and its management well. I think he will bring about many changes," he added.

Luhut asserted that the change in Pertaminas leadership has been delayed because President Joko Widodo was busy with his official tours and not because of differences.

"We all agreed and shared the same view," he affirmed.

State enterprises minister Rini Soemarno named Massa as the new Pertamina president to replace Dwi Soetjipto who was dismissed on Feb 3, 2017.

Massa was confirmed as Pertamina president in the decision of the state enterprises minister number SK-52/MBU/03/2017 handed over by the deputy for financial survey and consultancy service, Gatot Trihargo, and witnessed by chairman of the board of commissioners Tanri Abeng at the office of the state enterprises minister on Thursday.

Gatot Trihargo noted that Massa had been appointed as the new chief because of his capacity, leadership, and experiences in conducting transformation in several companies.

"Massa has a background in energy, banking, and agro-industry. His track records as CEO in a number of companies are commendable," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Tanri Abeng noted that Pertamina needs a figure like Massa to build a strong and solid working team.

"With a solid team and active communication with commissioners, Massa and Pertamina board members will be able to execute all strategic programs of the company," he asserted.

Massa noted that many agendas are yet to be carried out as part of the governments program to realize energy sovereignty.

"All ranks and files of Pertamina from top leaders to staff members must have holistic skills with regard to building leadership skills," he revealed.(*)
