"The first train will arrive from South Korea on May 15. The delivery process started this week, and by mid-May, it will arrive in Jakarta," Director of Technical and Operational of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II Djoko Muratmodjo said here on Tuesday.
Djoko added that the train with three coaches would connect Terminals 1, 2, and 3 of the airport and is expected to be operational before Idul Fitri.
"The contract would end in Dec and before Idul Fitri, the lane between terminal 2 and 3 could be operated," he added.
Currently, state-run railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia has finished 50 percent of the railway construction.
"Now we are working on the infrastructure, as we already have the lane. Next, we will finish the railway facilities and station," he assured.
Djoko remarked that the train had the capacity to accommodate 178 passengers. It would pass the integrated building that would connect the three terminals in the airport.
The headway of the skytrain would be 5 minutes, with 7 minutes needed to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3.
"For its first phase, we will get three train sets and for the next phase, we will get three other train sets. This year, there will be additional order, and early next year, it could be fully operational," Djoko remarked.
The train would move at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour and would be equipped with automated guideway transit (AGT) technology. Passengers could access the schedule for skytrain arrivals on their smartphones through the Indonesia Airport application.
Investment for the project is estimated at Rp950 billion (US$71.25 million), which includes the construction of infrastructure and the procurement for moving stock.
The skytrain is built by state-owned company PT LEN in cooperation with Woojin from South Korea, while the infrastructure will be handled by state-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya Tbk and PT Indulexco. (*)
