An incompetent person is called upon to end gait as a press worker. There are several other promising jobs."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Press Council has encouraged the implementation of the Journalist Competency Test and verification of media companies to ensure compliance with professional standards.

Chairman of the Press Council Yosep Adi Prasetyo stated here on Wednesday that the image of the journalism profession was tarnished by the acts of incompetent people while carrying out their journalistic practices.

"The competency test for journalists and verification of media companies are a means of measuring the fulfillment of a healthy and responsible press," he stated.

The Press Council expressed hope that the Journalist Competency Test will be implemented as objectively as possible, so that competent reporters are guaranteed to uphold Press Law No. 40 and the journalistic code of ethics.

"An incompetent person is called upon to end gait as a press worker. There are several other promising jobs," he noted.

Secretary of the Honorary Board of the Center Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Wina Armada lauded the competency test program and verification of media companies.

"PWI is the creator of the journalists competence test that was announced in Palembang, South Sumatra Province, in 2010," Armada remarked.

A person who regularly works as a journalist will not encounter any obstacles in following the competency test.

"A person who is hesitant or not confident in undergoing the competency test means that the individuals competence in journalism is questionable," Armada added.
