"The books here are diverse, ranging from categories, such as children, adult, and fiction to biographies, among others, from 310 publishers," Chairman of the Islamic Book Fair Committee 2017 M. Anies Baswedan stated at the opening of the event here on Wednesday.
He noted that the 16th Islamic Book Fair is themed "Building Civilization Through Islamic Literacy."
The organizer is holding the event as a platform to promote literary tourism. The venue has a childrens playground to make the visitors feel at ease while visiting the exhibition.
"We provide a child zone where there is a playground, educational cinema, educational village, as well as a replica of the house of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)," Baswedan remarked.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Publishers Association Jakarta Hikmat Kurnia said the fair is expected to encourage the habit of reading among the Indonesian people.
"There are three pillars of literacy -- reading, discussion, and writing -- and these three will build excellent human resources and an outstanding civilization," he added. (*)
