A statement from the Colombian Embassy in Jakarta received by ANTARA here on Monday mentioned the two sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the commitment through the implementation of the Framework of Cooperation between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance which agreed at the 3rd Ministerial Meeting in New York, USA on September last year.
The framework of cooperation was focused on four areas namely economic cooperation; education and people to people contact; science, technology and innovation; and sustainable development.
Recognizing the enormous potential of cooperation between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance, the meeting agreed to develop a number of concrete actions for the four priority areas.
In addition, the participants also agreed to intensify efforts to promote closer relations among citizens through initiatives such as educational, tourism, cultural and sport programs.
The meeting was chaired jointly by the Vietnamese Permanent Representative to ASEAN, Nguyen Hoanh Nam, and by the Director of Bilateral Economic Affairs of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pablo Urria.
A number of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and Ambassadors of the Pacific Alliance countries also participated in the meeting.
The Pacific Alliance is a regional integration initiative comprising Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, and 49 observer countries, of which three are ASEAN members namely Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.(*)
