Bulogs President Director Djarot Kusumayakti stated here, Wednesday, the agency would provide the staple food for its campaign.
Bulog has initiated the Food Stabilization Campaign to secure food prices, ahead of the Ramadan fasting month and Idul Fitri, and it would be carried out across the country for two weeks.
"Provision of staple food will not only be made available in Jakarta, but across the country from Sabang to Merauke," Djarot said at the launch of the Food Stabilization Campaign, which was also attended by Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita.
In addition to rice, the agency would also stock 320,000 tons of sugar, 37,500 tons of frozen meat, 207,000 liters of edible oil, 60,000 tons of onion, and 62 tons of garlic.
"For onion and garlic, the stock will be increased in accordance with domestic production and import," he remarked.
For the occasion, Bulog has dispatched 20 trucks loaded with basic commodities, including rice, sugar, edible oil, and meat, to some traditional markets in Jakarta to stabilize food price.
Trade Minister Lukita expressed his support for the campaign, stressing that Bulog had adequate food stock in its warehouses. The government has assured that prices would be stable during Ramadan and Idul Fitri.
"Now Bulog has adequate stock, but if there are signs of foul play by traders, then Bulog will be ready to enter traditional markets," he affirmed.
The minister warned traders and distributors against playing the price game, threatening them with revoke of licenses.
"The Food Task Force will be ready to take measures. Speculators will not only suffer losses, but they will face legal consequences," he said.(*)
