"I will be representing Asia to deliver a keynote speech there," said Megawati.Jeju, S Korea (ANTARA News) - Indonesias fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri had left for Jeju Island, South Korea on Monday night to deliver her keynote speech in the 12th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, scheduled to be held from May 31 to June 2.
Megawati will be representing Asia in bringing the message of sustainable peace in the forum in which former world leaders, thousands of politicians, academics, activists and journalists from 70 countries will be participating.
"I will be representing Asia to deliver a keynote speech there," said Megawati in Seoul, moments before she left for Jeju on Monday.
Her journey to attend the Jeju Forum started off with her meeting with the South Korean President Moon Jae-in in the Blue House, Seoul, South Korea on Monday.
During the meeting, Moon Jae-in had asked for Megawati to bridge the reunification efforts between South Korea and North Korea.
The Presidents request to Megawati is strongly related to the close historical ties between the family of Soekarno and the leader of North Korea.
For that reason, the Soekarno family is deemed capable in becoming the bridge between South and North Korea in the reunification efforts.
Megawati herself had expressed her willingness to bridge the efforts and said that she will think about the ways she can help in the process once she returned to Jakarta.
"Of course this is not a personal matter, I am acting as the representative of Indonesia," she added.
Meanwhile, in the Jeju forum, Megawati will be talking about how the concept of Indonesias five ideology (Pancasila) can be implemented globally in order to achieve world peace.
The Leader of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) believed that the concept of Pancasila can be applied in all countries in the world.
She is also scheduled to have a dialogue with former American Vice President Al Gore in the forum.
She will also join a panel in which former Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva and former President of Mongolia Punsalmaagin Ochirbat will be speaking part.
Megawati will also be attending the inauguration of a garden in the island of Jeju that has been named after her.
The name Megawati Soekarnoputri garden was given by a hotel in Jeju that had received a lot of visits from Indonesian Muslim tourists.
The naming is a form of appreciation for her as she is deemed to have represent a country with the biggest Muslim population in the world.(*)
